Privacy Policy for Perimeter

Effective date: October 3, 2026
Last updated: October 3, 2026

Perimeter is developed by For Purpose Labs LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Perimeter iOS app uses, where it is kept, and who can see it.

The short version

Perimeter does not collect your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no servers we operate. Your location, your app selections, your screen time figures, and your settings stay on your iPhone. We never receive them and could not identify you or your usage if we wanted to.

The only time information leaves your device is when you use an Apple service from inside the app, such as searching for an address on the map. That is described under "Apple services used by the app" below.

Location

Perimeter asks for "Always" location access. It uses your location for one purpose: working out whether your iPhone is inside or outside a place (a "perimeter") that you set up, so it can block or allow the apps you chose.

  • Location is processed on your device. Arrivals and departures are detected by iOS's built-in region monitoring.
  • We never receive your location, and the app does not send it to us or to any third party.
  • The app does not keep a location history. It stores only which perimeter, if any, you are currently in, and when that was last checked.
  • The places you set up (name, map coordinates, and size) are stored on your device only.
  • If you turn off location access, Perimeter cannot tell where you are and keeps your selected apps blocked. This is intentional.

Which apps you block

Perimeter uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls) to block apps. Apple designed this framework so that developers never learn which apps a person selects: the app receives opaque tokens instead of app names or identifiers.

That means neither we nor the app can see which apps, categories, or websites you have chosen to block. This is enforced by iOS, not just by our policy. Your blocklists are stored on your device only.

Screen time figures (the Progress screen)

To show how much time you have given back, Perimeter uses Apple's Screen Time reporting to read this iPhone's total daily screen time. It works like this:

  • During setup, the app shows you your average daily screen time over the previous 14 days and invites you to save it as your "previous daily average." This is the fixed baseline that later weeks are compared against. Saving it is optional, and you can change or clear it at any time.
  • On the Progress screen, the app compares your recent daily average with that baseline and shows the difference, plus a value in money if you entered an hourly rate.
  • Screen time figures are calculated on your device by a component that Apple keeps isolated from the rest of the app. iOS does not allow that component to send the figures anywhere or to share them with the rest of the app, so they are recalculated each time you open the screen and are never stored by Perimeter.
  • Perimeter uses daily totals for this iPhone only. It never sees or records which apps you used, or how long you spent in any particular app.

What the app does store, on your device only: the date you started using Perimeter, and, if you enter them, your previous daily average and an hourly value for your time.

Activity statistics

The Progress screen also shows how long your perimeters have been active, along with streaks and breaks used. To produce this, the app records on your device the times blocking turns on and off and each time you take a break. These records are kept for 90 days and older ones are deleted automatically. They contain no app names and no location.

Your passcode

If you set a settings passcode, the app stores a salted, one-way hash of it in your iPhone's Keychain; the passcode itself is not stored. It is never transmitted anywhere, and we cannot recover it. If you forget it and no one else knows it, deleting and reinstalling the app clears all settings and all blocks.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Perimeter shows alerts such as arriving at or leaving a perimeter and a weekly summary. These are created on your device. They are not sent through any server of ours.

Settings and backups

Perimeter's places, blocklists, schedules, breaks, and other settings are stored locally using standard iOS storage. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, this information may be included in that backup, under Apple's terms rather than ours.

Apple services used by the app

Some features rely on Apple services. When you use them, the information described below is handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy, not sent to us:

  • Maps and address search. When you set up a perimeter, the map is provided by Apple Maps. If you search for an address or place, your search text and the area you are viewing are sent to Apple to return results. When you place a pin, its coordinates are sent to Apple to look up a nearby address or place name.
  • App Store. Downloads, updates, and any future purchases are handled by Apple. Perimeter currently has no in-app purchases. If they are added later, Apple will process payment and we will not receive your payment details.
  • Crash reports. Perimeter contains no crash-reporting or analytics tools. If you have turned on "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash logs with us. They do not contain personal information, and you can turn this off at any time.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent, or share data, because we do not have any.
  • We do not use tracking, advertising identifiers, or fingerprinting.
  • We do not have user accounts or require registration.
  • We do not receive your location, your screen time, your app usage, or your browsing.
  • We do not include third-party analytics, attribution, or advertising SDKs.

Children

Perimeter is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. If a parent sets up Perimeter on a child's device, all configuration stays on that device and is visible to whoever holds the settings passcode.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA give you rights to access, correct, delete, or transfer your personal data. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, delete, or transfer. You can delete everything the app stores by deleting Perimeter from your iPhone. For information Apple holds, contact Apple directly.

Changes to this policy

If we add a feature that changes how information is handled, we will update this policy and the date above before that feature is released, and note material changes in the app's release notes.
